When building responsive emails the most sure-fire way to get your email to render correctly on a mobile device is to use media queries. Using media queries consists of using a style sheet at the top of your email code. This will allow you to work with the font size, padding, image size, etc. Now, you may be saying “I thought you weren’t allowed to use a style sheet at the top of your email. Don’t certain email clients cut off the body tags in email?” Yes, very true. The solution to that for rendering desktop emails perfectly is to use inline styles. For mobile styling media queries work great. But there are some mobile email apps that don’t yet support media queries and to overcome that we have to be a bit creative.
